About us

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Plymouth

Welcome to the home page of the Rotary Club of Plymouth. We are a diverse club of ordinary men and women, young and old. Our club is strongly focused on networking, community service and helping to change lives in the world, with giving back to the community as our common goal. Rotary allows us to do more in partnership than we can as an individual.

We moved to the Duke of Cornwall Hotel on 10th January 2022 and now meet every Monday lunch time dining at 1pm.  The exceptions are those Mondays that are public holidays.

Background information about the Club

We celebrated our Centenary on 21st December 2020.  This was held on Zoom and to celebrate our part of a worldwide organisation, which has over 1.2 million members, we had members from several 'Plymouth' named Rotary clubs in the USA and members from clubs in France, Germany and South Africa.  In normal times we meet weekly on a Monday lunchtime. We enjoy a great meal, great camaraderie and do have excellent guest speakers.

We have many projects to assist the local community as well as the international community. Our members truly get a satisfaction out of knowing they have helped to change lives and do good in the world.

If you are looking to give something back to the community, or helping those in need, then contact us or come to one of our meetings to find out more.

We encourage you to visit our ‘Happening Soon’ section at the foot of this page regularly, to see the various upcoming activities that the club is taking part in and how you can help. There is a sub-menu that reveals our past events.

Club Activites

We have a number of activities which we support either by helping with fund raising or with assistance in organising activities.  Examples of helping disadvantaged children and adults are; the Diana Challenge, (sailing on Plymouth Sound), Kids Out, Holidays for Children, (both day trips for children) and Special Olympics Plymouth & District, (enhancing lives of those with intellectual disability).

We also support Oasis Project (it provides practical care and training for the community in Stonehouse) and  Plymouth Refuge (it provides secure shelter for those suffering domastic abuse), it is President Simon's choosen charity for the year. 'Guerrilla Gardening Project', (a derelict plot at the car park in Stoke is maintained by club members.)  RYLA (Rotary Young Leaders Award which provides high quality leadership training for young people aged between 18 and 30), Polio Plus (Rotary International set the objective in 1985 to eliminate polio.) Young Artist Competition, (for many years this was a local event organised by the club for students in secondary education throughout Plymouth but from this year there was a District competition (Devon & Cornwall) national competition (UK and Ireland).  Isobel Easton of Devonport HS for Girls won the Intermediate category both in the club competition and the District.  Ashlyn Madgwick also of DHSG went one better and won 1st Prize in the senior category in all three competions. Pirate Weekend (we particpate in this annual event raising funds for charities).  We also have an active liaison with two Rotary clubs in South Africa, Hout Bay and Kromboom, (both clubs have projects to improve the lives of those living in terrible conditions in local 'Townships').

Our main fund raising activity is at Christmas when we collect for local charities at slected superstores and from house to house in certain parts of the city.
